The feeling of home isn't a place or a building. It's found in the company of certain people who make you really appreciate life. It lies in family. It lies in friends. It can even lie in strangers.
It's the feeling of being truly content, hypnotisingly relaxed. It's familiarity, comfort and warmth. It's a moment when you sit back and look at the incredible people around you and realise how lucky you are and how they're a part of you, help shape the person you are and want to be. It's knowing these people will always be in your life and what a reassuring thought that is.
Home is laughter, a happy heart, a head on a shoulder, an arm around someone you love, a smile on your face and no wish for greener grass because you already have the greenest.
I wanted to try my best to make a piece, or several, to encompass this feeling of home and represent the people that it belongs to. Thank you to the very special people in my life who make me feel home and who was in mind when these pieces and my project progressed. Much love and appreciation - I thought it was about time I showed it.
The details were very important to me. I chose bronze, a warm colour, to tie in with the warmth of the emotions that surround the pieces; the same reason applies to the smooth, almost comforting texture. Metal is often thought of as a cold, hard material, but the style in which I created these pieces, I think, softens the metal somewhat. There’s also the additional feature that the more you hold something that’s metal, the more warmth it absorbs.
All of the pieces encircle whichever body part it’s for, but none are closed: a gentle, affectionate gesture as opposed to a restricted or aggressive one.
