A recent project I gave myself: two little thank-you presents. One for the technician: someone who’s put up with my endless stream of questions, my persistence, saved me and my work from many near disasters, without whom I wouldn’t have gotten my display finished for the degree show, let alone potentially actually passing my degree. Nothing was impossible for this team! It seemed only fitting that he was reinvented as a tiny little superhero (cape is actually his apron on backwards, which even has a little pocket) and a pair of glasses that he can’t lose (what friendship is complete without a little mick-taking?).
The other for my tutor: this lady is quite possibly the happiest person I have ever met. I don’t think a day has passed where I haven’t seen her smiling, and with every smile or peal of laughter, a wave of positivity floods the workshop, something that is really needed when you’re nearing the end of your third year. Always asking questions to keep me thinking and always there in the background to keep nudging me forward, even in times I didn’t know of straight away.
I know it’s their job to teach and support, but these two have definitely gone above and beyond; it deserved to be celebrated and for me to at least try to show my gratitude for all they’ve helped me with and all they’ve taught me. I hope I can make them proud and some day do the same for other people as they have for me.
